and you can’t have it both ways
I’m not a fan of Whoopi Goldberg. I used to be. I still enjoy Sister Act – it’s one of the movies I’ve seen a bunch of times that hasn’t yet been ruined for me. ((((I have limited tolerance for repetition of anything, but my husband, that wonderful man, can watch the SAME. FUCKING. SHOW. ((or movie)) EVERY. FUCKING DAY. ((((and sometimes more than once in the same day))) until I pray to the Goddess that I will never ever have to see that particular bit of drama every again)))). (It doesn’t work, by the way. See previous posts about MASH)
I digressed. I think Whoopi used to be funny. I don’t care for her politics, so I don’t watch the show that she hosts. Wow, that was easy, I just change the channel. She doesn’t really impact my life.
However. Apparently she said something extremely stupid the other day. Like none of us have ever done that before! She explained herself later on some talk show that I also don’t watch because hey, that channel changing thing? It’s pretty amazing. Was she sincere? I don’t know.. I teach, I’ve dealt with student excuses forever, and I’m also a grandmother – I know the “say you’re sorry so you don’t get in trouble” routine. She seemed sincere, but she’s an actress, so there’s that.
I never heard of this Joe Rogan guy till he got Covid and got over it by using (OH MY GOD! HOW DARE HE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Ivermectin and HCQ and Vitamin C and I don’t know what all else. HOW DARE HE GET OVER COVID WITHOUT GIVING ALL PRAISE TO SAINT FAUCI OF THE VACCINE THAT DOESN’T WORK?????????????????
Well. He obviously needed to be cancelled. Seriously, who could even question that he needed to just STFU and slink off to his dank cellar and be re-educated?
And along came Whoopi. Damn it, she needs to be cancelled too!
But wait. You don’t think Rogan should be cancelled? Then how can you support cancelling Whoopi?
(The more I type “Whoopi,” the funnier it looks, by the way)
I don’t think you can say it’s okay to cancel only the ones you don’t like. Call me crazy, and many have, but that just doesn’t fly with me.
I appreciate your honesty in this post. Other than Sister Act and Sister Act II and, of course, Ghost, I haven’t paid much attention to Ms. Goldberg as a human being. I saw a news report and a clip of what she said, but I’m saving my anxiety and anger for something personal, so I bypassed it. The View is not at all like it was when Barbara Walters was the main host, and I’m not the kind of person who likes to see grown women spout out their opinions in (almost) hopes that an altercation will follow.

I haven’t really paid much attention to her either. I haven’t watched The View since Barbara Walters left, I totally turned them off when Joy Behar insulted nurses. I’m tired of the rules for thee but not for me attitude these days. And – are you okay?

I just hope you’ll explain how she and Ted Danson ended up married.

Dammit you made me Goog it. No, I guess they never tied the knot. Just a steamy Hollywood romance.

Aren’t they all?

I really liked Sister Act, too. Only watched bits (very little bits) of The View but not on purpose. From what I saw and heard IMO the show is a group of women who sit around badmouthing others and try to be relevant. I have heard of Joe Rogan and that he got over Covid using inexpensive already tested, safe medications. Actors and other celebrities who think their opinions are worth something because they are actors and celebrities use up too much oxygen spouting nonsense, aka their opinion.
The Cancel Culture was stupid to start with and it’s still stupid. It reminds me of the cliques in high school which were just bullies. The Cancel Culture bullies left high school but kept their bullying mindset. Cancel Culture needs to go away.

Exactly. It’s the mean girls going after someone who wore the wrong socks on Wednesday.

YOU’RE CRAZY! No, I don’t actually think that but how could I turn down an invitation after you were so kind as to offer the opportunity? Somewhere along the line we as a people seem to have lost the ability to disagree with an other without wanting to wipe them off the face of the Earth. Sheesh, people, not everything is an existential threat to your existence. I’m not a fan of either of these folks so I use my Mighty Thumb and simply change channel/stream. I like dogs so I usually hang out with them.

I’m a I can watch it over and over (though not on the same day or even week) kind of person. Love MASH except the finale. It’s the comfort and the return of the endorphins from the first watching that sucks me in.
I view Whoopi’s situation to be more like Roseann Barr’s than Joe Rogan’s. Whoopi spoke an ignorant statement and was given the opportunity to learn and atone. She got a two week suspension and a talk show gig. Roseann Barr was completely canceled. She lost the reboot of her show, the name of it was changed and her character was killed off. She wasn’t given an opportunity to learn and apologize for what she said. Her cast mates and friends condemned her. Both are women and comedians of a similar age. The only difference is their political leaning.
I watched Joe Rogan’s podcast with Dr Malone. It was excellent. Joe asked questions and talked about his experience. Dr Malone talked science, data and answered Joe’s questions. If it’s available you should watch it.

I’ve seen her situation compared to Roseanne as well. Roseanne was treated very badly but does it make it okay to treat Whoopi unfairly as well? I don’t think so. I plan to watch the Joe Rogan podcast if I ever get time!

No one should be canceled ever. Learn from the mistake, apologize and move on.

I like to re-watch favorite movies or sitcoms too, there is comfort in them, it’s like sitting down with an old friend. 🙂 I like to re-watch MASH, Home Improvement (I laugh every time even tho I’ve seen it many times), I love: You’ve Got Mail, Pride and Prejudice (the 2005 version with Keira Knightley and Mathew Macfadyen, who such eye candy lol) and My Fair Lady, so many to re-watch, and oh yeah marathons of Harry Potter or what was the 1st 3 movies of Star Wars but is now the middle 3 movies, and I love the Mandalorian which I re-watch off and on while waiting for the new season lol. And yes I’m a Trekie, but what can I say.
Like all of you, if I don’t like something I don’t watch it, no point in cancelling people, just don’t watch it. No one is allowed to have an opinion anymore per the left, they try to rule us with fear, ‘don’t say anything or you will be cancelled’ kind of thing. I could care less if they cancel me, but then my blog is my only social media, I took my facebook and IG down a few years ago, I really didn’t see the lure of being verbally assaulted and fighting over the opinions of others who can’t let you have an opinion without wish mortal harm on you. I guess you could say in a way I cancelled them by closing out my online accounts lol, so there!!
