It’s a gloomy day today. Rain, thunderstorms, and the smoke from the Canadian wildfires are adding up to “let’s take a nap or read” for the afternoon. Reading may lead to inadvertent napping, by the way.
My nieces were here overnight. I was hoping they’d stay longer but we had a good visit. They took me to a winery and we did a tasting – something I’ve never done before. I’m not a big wine drinker, but it was really fun. The next day we went Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium. I got lost one time and drove by there and I’ve wanted to go ever since. It’s about an hour drive but it was worth it. We had a ball, you can walk around the grounds – not a huge area, but everywhere you look, you find another little elephant. We were like kids, “oh, look, there’s one in the tree!” And we bought some candy, an adorable watercolor of a mamma elephant and baby, a magnet, some t-shirts, some stuff! They spent a ton of money, I was good!
And then we tried out the grill feature on my new toaster over/air fryer thing. I had two sirloin steaks in the freezer and oh my, were they delicious! There’s a ton of leftovers so steak and broccoli stir fry for dinner tonight.
It was a nice visit, and a much needed break from all the stuff. This week is car title transfers, probate hearing, hopefully setting up an estate account. Feels like I’m in the middle of a whirlwind still. 😦
While they were here, one niece asked if I would make simple quilts for her grandchildren. It’s not like I don’t have fabric! So today is reading (you already know that if you’ve been paying attention) and cutting squares for simple 9 squares.
I’m not okay by any measure. But I’m doing my best.
Ooh, nine patch quilts are wonderfully therapeutic! Plus they’s a great excuse when you want to hide from responsibility. (“But I HAVE to make this for my niece!!”).
It sounds like you’ve been very busy the past few weeks. It must feel good to know you’ve accomplished so much. ❤️

I’m learning that you don’t get over grief but you have to keep moving. I’m a hot mess, honestly – broke down yesterday when the guy came to do the yearly furnace inspection – but I’m moving.

When I saw your title. “Feeling Like The Weather” I thought you were going to say “Sizzling Hot!” Which would have been bold, but likely defensible. Glad to hear of your nice day and elephants. When you go back, they’ll remember you, because an elephant…oh, you know the rest.

Having a project and keeping busy does help. I have not been in your situation but I know people who have. My sister says that getting out of bed counts as moving forward. Getting dressed is another. Every step counts.
Unfortunately there is no cure for grief.
Mr. Ed’s Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium sound fun!
🩷❤️🧡

The message I’m getting is to just keep moving. Its hard to get out of bed – but Maverick won’t let me stay in it. Since I seem to have wrecked my shoulder, sewing is my therapy.

Sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, quilting, anything that keeps your hands and mind busy are good to keep us occupied and moving forward. They are stress relief. I’m thankful that our Heavenly Father gave us skills he knew would come in handy for more than one thing. Baby steps are good, that’s all you can take right now. The sudden bouts of grief and crying will come and go, getting a little farther apart as time goes by, and the pain gets better too, but it never completely goes away, but it gets better enough that you can find a smile in a memory, those precious memories are wonderful, and they’ll do until we are reunited, I’m grateful to know that there is a reason we are here and that we do have a joyful destination. I keep praying the Lord will bless you with his comfort as you trudge through the hardest parts. I’m glad your nieces came and you had a good time and that your precious Maverick knows you need to be up and moving, even if you don’t want to :P.

Thank you so much for your prayers. My friend, who’s husband passed 8 days after Mark, and I have started attending a church that has been so incredibly welcoming. God is working in my life. I have to work on letting Him.

I’m glad you were able to find some fun ways to pass time with your nieces’ visit! It doesn’t take away your incredible loss but it helps to remind you that there is joy that can be found in the process of putting yourself out there to find it. Meanwhile, I keep you in my prayers that each step forward will allow you to feel its accomplishment.
