Tired

Since my last shots in the back, my legs ache at night. Actually, they ache all the time, I just notice it more at night. I have an ortho appointment on Friday and we’re going to discuss this, because it’s keeping me from getting a good night’s sleep.

This is not normal for me. My mom used to say I was the Queen of sleep, I could sleep anywhere, any time. So for me to be awake several times in the night, and then be awake for awhile trying to get comfortable, is not normal

Well. Would you expect me to be normal?

We got more snow last night. I think it was about an inch. I think I’m tired of it and there are 67 days till Spring. All it did was make a mess and so we didn’t get a walk today. Maverick is not pleased but I’ve been to our park when there’s been snow – people walk anyway, and leave footprints in the snow, which then freeze – and that’s a broken hip waiting to happen. It’s also colder than a witch’s tit out there and I hate being bundled up – layers are not my friend. I like being able to move and layers make me feel constricted.

So Maverick and I are playing the “let me in so I can go back outside” game and I just told him that if I have to get up one more time, I’m going to a hotel for the rest of the weekend. (Get a dog, they said, it’ll be fun.)

My classes start on the 21st. After a semester off, I will now have 4 classes, 3 of the same subject and one more advanced. I don’t much enjoy the first class so I’m working on ways to make it more fun. Hopefully I can get the students involved and that always makes things more interesting (My classes are fun, because Accounting can be extremely dry so I do my best to keep them interested) At any rate, this has involved a good bit of work and I know I won’t be ready but I’ll wing it – I always do!

I’m still plugging away on the scarf, may finish the second color tonight – if I don’t fall asleep first. Bear has been working on the plow all day so I suspect it will be subs for supper and an early night. I’m about 10 pages from the end of my current book, so that will be done and the next one started I’m knocking down that TBR pile this year!

And how’s your weekend going?

Ugh, I share your pain-and-no-sleep story. I’m getting some help, but I have about 2 hrs of PT every day just to get myself to the point where most people are when they do nothing. Do the doctors know what is wrong with your back or are they still at the guessing stage? Does anything alternative help? In my case my OT pointed out that I am very susceptible to barometric changes. Is that true for you too?

I hope you can lose yourself in your knitting and reading so you don’t notice how miserable you are!

    • I have degenerative disc disease- I’m not bad enough for surgery yet so meanwhile I do exercises and walk and see a chiropractor every two weeks. I hate it – I’m not good at sitting around but too much activity and I’m down for a day or two.

That sounds familiar. I get “fatigued” as they call it. The world considers me lazy, but I don’t know how to overcome this body’s failures.

I hope you’re not in too much pain as you wait to fall apart enough to get help. 🙄

      • It’s more of an ache – just a constant ache that keeps me from being able to get comfortable. The world thinks the same of mine – also that I’m a bitch – because some days I don’t have the energy to be patient with bullshit. Even friends don’t get it but we soldier on, right?

If “soldiering” involves crawling on the floor and whining, then absolutely yes! 🤣

      • I’ve been in that position! The worst was getting out of bed back in June, the day before i was meant to drive to NY (a 6 hour drive) and having my right leg go all sorts of stupid. I actually screamed in pain – it was so bad. Apparently I slept wrong and twisted my vertabrae My chiro got me functional and I made the trip, but it was a week of “lift your leg with your hands to get in the shower!” It’s so much fun getting old!

People have been telling me it is age causing my problems, but my PT said it isn’t so. So maybe you’re not old, you just have a malfunctioning back!

      • I’m pretty sure mine is more related to years of constantly having a kid on my hip than age. I’m the aunt who always cared for the littles, and then Bear’s grandchildren. Takes a toll on

  3. I read your post with Ortho as Orthodontist and I was thinking, Why does he care? Shouldn’t she be seeing someone different?
