In today’s news

Maverick has managed to generate a sore spot on his back paw, which is causing a good deal of drama in my life. I do not do well when my puppy is injured. I do not do well when well meaning friends offer stupid advice like, “Put ice on it.” Umm, have you ever attempt THAT? Yeah, not happening

He was fine at daycare all week, last night he went ballistic when my friend was here and then suddenly wasn’t putting weight on his paw. Ummm, what? So I called the daycare lady, M, and asked if he was okay all day. She reviewed the videos from yesterday and all week, and said he was fine, not favoring that paw at all. She gave me some advice – I will take advice from her because she knows what the f**k she’s talking about most times.

He wouldn’t let us look closely at the paw. She suggested we bring him back to daycare, it’s about a mile from my house. Off we went. Her husband was able to hold Maverick while she examined the paw. As soon as she touched the spot, we knew. She separated the fur and we could see that it was red and sore looking, not open or oozing or nasty, just sore looking. She trimmed up the fur and rubbed some salve into it. Phew.

We came home and I tried to get my nerves to settle, which would have been easier if he hadn’t insisted on licking the damned paw. And my friend kept telling me it was itching and he needed ice. No, he needed a calming pill and I needed a shot of Irish Mist, both of which happened when she left.

So today he’s being babied a bit, no walk for him but one for me.

It feels like life is throwing a lot of shit my way these past few months, so while I’m not happy about this paw situation, I’m grateful it’s nothing worse

  1. Our Leonberger Bronco developed a mysterious sore right above his paw. It was big (a bloody circle with a two inch diameter) and it appeared suddenly. The veterinary put QuickDerm on it (later manuka honey) using an adaptic pad, wrapping it with a Telfa pad and then a bandage on top. Well it was also cleaned using Chlorohexadine (you cannot use alcohol solutions with dogs). They confirmed that it was not cancer and then we learned to do the procedure ourselves so we could change the bandage/adaptic pad/Telfa every day. It was not easy since the bandage very easily slipped off. We figured out that the Manuka Honey worked best, better than the QuickDerm salve. It took a long time but the mystery sore healed. Our small dog Rollo helped us change Bronco’s bandage. One time Rollo drank the Chlorohexadine solution but he was fine. It is not poisonous.

Poor Maverick! That sounds like a nasty place for an injury. I hope he heals quickly.

With Geordie, I would have put a cone on him, but I’m guessing Maverick would have none of that?

In the meantime, make an extra trip to the State Store! 😆

Poor Maverick, too bad they can not talk, it’s like having a small toddler who can’t tell you what’s wrong. :/. Sorry you are stressed out too :(. I spin or knit when I’m stressed out :P.

Maybe it was sticker that came out, do you have goatheads there?

Glad you don’t have goatheads, those are the nastiest sticker I ever had the “pleasure” to meet. The thorn on it can flatten a bicycle tire or go through a flip flop (ask me how I know) :P.

I think they are only in the desert southwest areas. They aren’t bad when they are green on the weed plant, but when they dry and fall off the weed, oh my gosh they get everywhere.

I think they are in the midwest where I live now, I don’t think they were in the desert southwest, I think it’s too dry there. I guess everywhere has some obnoxious weeds!!!

      • We have these things we call boogie lice that stick to everything. Real fun with a long haired dog!

Oh don’t think I’ve seen those, but burrs are like that and they are dang near impossible to get out without cutting them out. I think that is where some guy got the idea from and created velcro!!! The two that I am familiar with are sandspurs and cockleburs ugy things both lol. The sandspurs grow about 7 inches tall with burrs that form all long the length in a line and they catch on your socks and anything that they can get those little burrs into, so hard to get out. The cockleburs are much bigger and the bane of most animals. I’m not sure where the humor is in their creation :P.

  8. We were out of town visiting my brother since last Thursday and missed this. Hopefully Maverick is doing better as well as your liver.
I needed four, countem’ FOUR rum and Cokes last night to recover from a 💩load of liberalism. My brother is a sweetheart. His wife….has some redeeming qualities. Knowing everything is one of them. 🫤

    • Ain’t family great? My sisters have been infected by TDS – thank the Lord, one doesn’t speak to me and the other lives 350 miles away.

Maverick is getting back to normal. I took him to daycare today, he’ll be restricted but at least be with other dogs and not stuck home all day!

  9. According to my family, Mr. Aitch corrupted my brain and made me the conservative that I am today. They are wrong. I opened my eyes, stopped listening MSM, and formed my own opinions. Having children and grandkids also helped as I think about how my decisions will affect their lives in the future. I could go on but I don’t want to start my day getting ticked off again.

    • Oh my gosh, same here! They blame the Bear and they’re partly right. He worked for Harley Davidson – I had spent years in the world of academia so it was culture shock on both sides. But the more I listened and watched, the more I realized he was right about so much. I’ve changed his mind about some things as well, but in a lot of ways, I’ve gone further right than even he has!
