My crazy boy turned 7 today. For his birthday, he got two hot spots. On his face. And he won’t leave them alone, so he’s currently wearing the cone of shame as his birthday hat. He is less than impressed with this situation. Last night was the first time he ever experienced the cone, and since I was beyond exhausted and totally frustrated, I admit that watching him try to remove it was pretty darned funny. I swear, he leaped into the air and spun, then ran through the house wrecking havoc for a few minutes. He would not settle for love nor money, panted relentlessly while ;pacing the house. I let him out and he refused to come back inside, when I took ahold of his lead to pull him in, he backed out of his collar – and the cone. So that was that for last night.
I was hoping I could trust him to sleep and leave things alone. I was wrong. He woke me up at 5:30, banging his foot on the step as he scratched his face. I was awake with him till 7, fell asleep till 8, got up and took him to daycare. He left it alone there, because he was busy all day, but started again as soon as we got home. Our daycare owner, who is also a groomer, shaved the fur around the spots, that will help stop it from spreading. It will also make it itch, so as soon as we got home, the cone went back on.
He’s finally calmed down a bit and is on the front porch after spending 3 hours pacing and panting and I’m exhausted and I expect it will be a long night. That cone is not coming off till it’s time for daycare tomorrow. (Yes, he’s allowed to go, these things are not contagious)
My friend recommended something called Bannix, so I’ll be heading to the store tomorrow. He’s also out of food, so I need to go to Petsmart anyway. I’ll get the Bannix at Rural King because then I can get free popcorn and go look at the baby chicks too.
In other news, I’m still doing physical therapy and have gone from 38% disabled to 24%. And I’m able to walk a mile and a half without too much trouble, I do take a few breaks still but I’m determined to get back to 3 miles by the end of the summer.
One more week of classes, then Summer session starts and I go down to just one class. While it’s nice to get a break, it’s a hit to the pocketbook. We’ll survive, we always do.
Currently reading: A LIttle Life by Hanya Yanagihara< It’s 832 pages long, about 4 young men with very different backgrounds who meet in college and have very different lives, focusing on Jude, who has had a terrible life but seems to keep it a secret. I’m about 300 pages in and enjoying it more than I thought I might.
Also reading The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. This was recommended by my physical therapist. I’m not very far into it, but it’s interesting and kind of something I already do. “You wanna be a jerk? Okay, your choice!”
Also reading Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe, by Laura Lynne Jackson. Also something I know about but it’s good to learn more. (Ask for a sign and wait)
Currently crocheting a mindless scarf with some fluffy yarn I’ve had forever, left over from a long finished project, in my effort to use up some of my stash. I may make a kid sized Wallaby next.
Currently sewing a baby quilt that may become a wall hanging, and getting ready to pin the backing to another. Also attempting to knock down the fabric stash before I go to NY for my yearly trip and come home with 3 more tote bags of fabric from my friend who loves buying it for me. I can’t say no, he just has so much fun sending me pictures and texts of his finds.
What I’m watching – nothing, really. Any suggestions?
I enjoyed your current reads update. I don’t watch much, but i did like The Pitt on Max. If you were a fan of ER, you would probably like it.

Thanks, I read an assortment, don’t I? I don’t have max, I’m not much of a tv person – wouldn’t even have cable if it was up to me

I know. I’m not much of a TV watcher either. We don’t have cable, but we have Max because it is included with our AT&T Fiber internet service. We canceled our Netflix account last year because we weren’t watching it as much anymore.

I would probably cancel Netflix but I have two extra members who use it all the time. And I will go in spurts where I watch a lot and then not much. Depends on what I’m reading!

Poor Maverick. You should get him a Doggy Cake or Treat when the spots heal.

I got him birthday cupcakes from the doggie bakery up the road. He’ll get one when he’s healed up. 🔝

Congrats on your therapy improvement!!! And Congrats on Maverick’s B-Day!!
I use a therapeutic Lavender oil for my itches (hives and bug bites) and ouchies (minor scrapes and scratches etc.). It quickly takes the itches and ouchies away and it doesn’t cause any pain on your skin (my grandchildren even like it), I’ve even used it on my minor burns (just red, not blistered) after I run cold water on it to stop the burning process and carefully drying it off, it takes a little bit longer to help the pain of a burn, but after the pain is gone I just reapply it as the pain starts to come back. It actually helps the skin to hear faster. Just make sure it’s a pure therapeutic, I use doTERRRA. You mix about a teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil, (just means it stays liquid as it’s a carrier oil to dilute and concentrated oil) and 2 drops of the lavender oil and put on the hot spot. Lavender is good for your skin and your skin loves lavender. I always have a roller bottle of it in my purse. Ask your vet, but lavender is not poisonous to people and can even be used to flavor things. I’d say it would be ok for dogs if he gets it in his mouth, but then we can eat chocolate and they can’t :P.
I love knitting mindless things right now as well, it’s relaxing and stress relief. This time of year is hard for me, it will be the 15th year, next month, since the passing of my youngest son to suicide. The mindless repetition of knitting is peaceful. Spinning would be too, but I haven’t been able to make my self spin, soon.
I’m rewatching The Closer, I forgot how much I enjoyed that TV series. :). I have Roku and am watching it on a free channel, Pluto TV, that you can add to the Roku channels you watch. I’m not sure what other channel you can find The Closer on. I gave up my cable service several years ago. Roku is just purchasing the device that you plug into your TV (about $50) and there is no monthly service fees. It allows me to add other channels, some free channels and some paid for channels (like Netflicks, Paramont+ Hulu, Max, Disney+ etc, which you will have a monthly fee for) and if you use amazon prime it has it’s free amazon prime streaming channel you can add to Roku, I watch Person of Interest and Stargate SG1 on that one :P. It also has the Merlin series if you like that magic stuff ;). There are lot of free stations you can add. I don’t even miss cable anymore. Just kept my internet and saved about $70 a month!!

I remember The Closer! I looked up lavender for dogs and it appears to be safe. I do DoTerra, too, I don’t think I could function without Deep Blue rub. I mix lavender oil with coconut oil and use as a lotion – I need to mix some up, I’m all out.

Happy Birthday to Maverick! And hurrah for the reduction in disability!!
Had to laugh at Rural King! The Kraken introduced me to that last summer – “Redneck Wal-Mart, free popcorn, ducklings! I was just thinking yesterday I need to intro the Hubs to this place!
You have a lot of projects and reading going on, not sure how you keep it all straight, but for downtime TV I recommend going old school. I just started at the beginning of Law and Order.

I love Law and Order! I think I might actually start Blue Bloods, I missed the first couple of seasons, then missed more because of class schedules, but I think it’s on Netflix. My description of Rural King is “Walmart and Tractor Supply had a baby.” Free popcorn AND free coffee! You can’t beat that!

Congrats to Maverick on making it to 7 years old and still being a part of your family! Sometimes I think he must surely take for granted the fact that you just refuse to give up on him! I don’t know how anyone can read multiple books simultaneously! Maybe I get so invested in the characters that I become confused when trying to juggle different characters in different story lines!
Congrats to you for having marked success with your physical therapy!

Oh gosh – Maverick is the center of our family! He’s wild and crazy and makes me nuts but I can’t imagine life without him. He brings the party wherever he goes. He has no idea that he’s just a bit too extra at times. 😂

Happy Barkday, Maverick! My psycho puppy started to mellow a bit after he turned eight …but just a little 😆. Geordie also had bad allergies. I gave him Benadryl for them. Some vets insist that it doesn’t help with itching; it only makes dogs sleepy. Either way, Geordie used to ask for the medication. Can Maverick take Benadryl?
Wow, congratulations on the progress with PT! I hope you continue to get better and better.
Have you ever watched Da Vinci’s Inquest? It’s a Canadian series. Tubi has it right now.

Maverick is on Atarax and Redonyl for his allergies. I have some calming meds I give once in a while- that’s helping with the current cone situation.
I’m feeling so much better, it’s amazing to get out of bed and not groan, and actually be able to stand up straight!

Not groaning? What’s that?
