Why why why?

So, as you all know, a few months ago I was talked into running for the local school board. My school district is deeply in debt for a variety of reasons. We’re facing a $3 million deficit in the next budget. The Bear works for the school – because I made him get a job after 2 years of retirement – and consequently, we have a front row seat to the amount of waste that currently is considered acceptable. A friend of ours is currently serving on the board and he would express his frustration with the current members on a regular basis – they pretty much don’t understand basic accounting concepts like time value of money – and so he finally convinced me to take a shot at running.

I’m pretty conservative, both fiscally and politically. I don’t think discussions of gender ideology, or the use of strange pronouns, or biological boys playing girls’ sports, belong in public schools. I also don’t think that throwing money at problems will normally fix them. I thought I made this clear to the group that wanted to support my candidacy, along with the other 3 candidates who are running. Apparently I was wrong. WIthout going into details, I’ve realized that one of the others is a raving liberal whose agenda seems to be promoting all the LGBTQRSTUVW123+++— stuff she can think of.

Can you see where this could be a problem? There was a policy proposed that stated that kids have to use the bathroom that coresponds to their gender. I don’t see a problem with this, other than the policy was very badly worded. There was a second policy about parental permission for pronouns. (Does that sound seriously stupid to anyone else? Why is your kid more focused on pronouns that on math?) Again, I don’t see a problem with this. I once told my mom I wanted to be called Carol. She ignored that request, as did every other adult in my life. I seem to have emerged with minimal trauma. (Interesting side note – my husband’s first wife was named Carol.)

So ………………someone posted on Facebook that the first policy would allow the teachers to check your kid’s privates to make sure they were using the correct bathroom. Yeah, no. Of course, it blew up among those to whom reading is not fundamental. I told the person who posted it to take it down, RIGHT NOW. The damage was done, and the meeting two days later was one CFSS** And the person with the LGBTetc agenda? Acted the biggest fool I’ve seen in a long time.

And what was my reaction? Can we say, “furious barely touches it?” So tonight, there’s a meeting with this group, It’s in a church, which is fitting, because it’s going to be a “come to Jesus” meeting if I ever saw one. I respect all viewpoints. Okay, maybe that’s a lie. I don’t respect the viewpoints of blue haired screaming idiots who demand attention. (Yup, I’m still angry)

It’s gonna be an interesting few years if she manages to not trigger the other side – the ultra conservatives who attend the same church that the board president attends, and who feel that all Democrats are actually demons who need exorcism – into a write-in campaign for another candidate. If that happens, it will be an even more fun two years. (Two years till the next election, we’re hoping to stave off the current members’ agendas till we can get them voted off)

Pray for me, I need it in more ways than one

**cfss= cluster fucking shit show

Update – the loony tune wasn’t there. I made my feelings clear. Hopefully things will go more smoothly from here on out

Wow, you really jumped into the belly of the beast, didn’t you?!

I am praying for not only you, but the one conservative on the Loudoun County school board. You both seem up against the Red Sea. But God parted it once, stay the course and you will be rewarded with what you need.

I applaud you for getting in there and trying to inject reason into an unreasonable situation. The kids really need a voice of reason against the blue-haired land whales that for some unknown reason are still having a moment.

We the reasonable need to shout louder than the lunatics who have taken over our children while we were apparently asleep at the switch.

    Godspeed!

    • Thank you. My neighbor, who got me into this, and I are both pretty conservative but lean towards common sense. Our kids can’t read a clock, can’t write in cursive, and we’re teaching them that something is wrong with the bodies God gave them. We’re seriously off course!

        Common Sense? What’s that?? 🙂

As a tormented lefty, I’m not that upset about cursive, but I am distressed that no one knows how to even print anymore.

The math and reading is just a tragedy. And I am watching a series about how the Muslim community would love to see Christianity end. If our kids really don’t know they are the most blessed people for getting to live in the USA, who will defend the country?

      • I worry about cursive writing because I’ve seen studies that show that it improves brain function. Also, who will read old documents? Call me Islamophobic, but it scares me to see our kids being indoctrinated

Your reasoning for cursive is sound. I can get behind that.

        I don’t think you’re phob-anything. It’s a threat, it’s real, and it’s scary how inhumane they are.

But read the Book. We win!!

  2. Well, wow! You certainly are in the middle of a CFSS!

Praying that common sense comes out on top. Dismantling the DoE might help get the kids the knowledge and skills they need to survive in this world.

How did the meeting go? I’ve been thinking about you all evening.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

I have to laugh at the “Teachers can check the genitals of the student to make sure they’re using the correct bathroom”. Funny, no teachers ever had to check before, yet they knew when someone was in the wrong place.

    • I just updated – the loony bird wasn’t there, there was a discussion of the Facebook post with a whole lot of “we had good intentions “ till I got tired of that and said, quite sternly, that it was absolutely unnecessary, they knew the policies were going to pass and it served no purpose – AND – it would not happen again. I’m pretty sure the message got through.

Bless your heart being in the belly of the beast!!! Yeah the school systems are awful, I had to teach my grand son to read when he was in the 6th grade and he would get msgs from the school about his reading level, yet they did nothing? So I had him come over to my house everyday after school (I live right behind his old jr high school, he’s in high school now). He hated reading, duh, cos he couldn’t read! He gave me a hard time everyday for a few months and I told him, you can go home when we have 30 min of reading you’ve been fighting this for 30 min, you could have already be going home, but we still have 30 mins to read. I always had snacks for him so he at least liked that, lol and sometimes he would stay for a movie. We were reading chapter books. At first, he would give in and I’d read a sentence and have him a read a sentence while I taught him the rules for English, sounds, breaking big words into smaller words, the old two vowels go walking the first one does the talking kinda thing to help with pronunciation so he could recognize the word he was trying to sound out. After a couple of months I would read a paragraph and he would read the next paragraph until we had a chapter done. His reading was getting better and by the end of school years and he had decided what kind of books he liked better, historical fiction, war stuff (lol typical guy stuff:P). During the summer he didn’t come but when he came back the next year to do our reading stuff after school again, he had been reading all summer by himself, actually buying his favorite author’s books. By the end of the year, he was reading a chapter and I would read the next chapter, he didn’t want to read if I didn’t lol. He kept reading his favorite author and buying the books. I was so proud of him and so mad at the school.

    • My neighbor tells a similar story – he read with his son for ten minutes a day and when the boy went back to school after summer break, the reading teacher was amazed at his progress. And….. I had totally forgotten about two vowels going walking! Thank you for that memory!

I loved English and reading in school, I even liked diagramming a sentence LOL. So it wasn’t hard to help him. I was appalled at his reading level in the 6th grade, so I went hard and we read for 30 min every day after school, followed by treats and/or a movie on TV (gotta bribe them :P), but I did tell him he couldn’t go home until we had read for 30 min (I’m a mean grandma :P). I told him to be able to do anything you have to be able to read. He was embarrassed to read in class because of his reading skill. So we fixed that and he actually loved reading after that, only took his 6th grade year to learn to read enough he could read on his own and the next year he was reading so much better. If the teachers are having a hard time working with children (I know the schools have to many children in a class room and I feel for those teachers) who aren’t reading well, maybe the school should have volunteers come in and work with them, read to the child or let the child read to the volunteer one on one in a corner of the room). I would.

      • I blame the parents who bitch and moan and yet don’t do anything . I would probably volunteer to read as well
