I got up at 6:30 yesterday morning – the literal crack o’dawn for me. I had my urologist appointment at 8:30 and managed to be awake and alert for the whole thing.
The bad news – I have yet another UTI, this makes 4 since January. So another round of Cepalexin, yippeee. However, the good news is that this is semi-normal in older women. (Yes, I am an older woman, and damned proud of it since I honestly expected to die at the age of 21) So there is a treatment plan that has had great success and I now have tools to fight this. It is not what I feared, she said it’s not ICS, so that made me very happy! A few lifestyle changes are in order – less coffee, more water – I should probably get one of those fancy bottles that tells you how much to drink when but I’m thinking a gallon jug will do the trick just as well. I can make it pretty and paint lines on it and put my own times on there. 🙂 (Yes, I’m that crafty)
In other news, the quilt I’ve been battling for ages is nearly done. I was hoping to finish it but getting up at 6:30 is not conducive to getting anything much done. I do need a nap, but I have office hour and then meeting a student who can’t make office hour, so I’ll have maybe an hour to sew anyway.
The shot in my shoulder blade appears to be working, although the steroids kept me awake last night – even though I was tired out from getting up so early. We had a wicked storm roll through, I’m pretty sure I saw Toto go by at least once. I never worried about wind till we built our house – in the woods. When surrounded by trees, one worries about wind. We were doing fine till the lights blinked out – that freaked me out and then of course, Maverick got stressed out. It’s scary enough with the wind, really scary when there’s no light. But we muddled through and calm ensued.
There is nothing on TV lately. I kind of like Will Trent because I read all the books and loved them so even though I’m not fond of the changes that were made (gotta keep the woke crowd happy) I still like the series. Last night I went to Netflix and scrolled till I landed on Enola Holmes – I like the actress who stars in this _ Millie Bobby Brown – she played Eleven in Stranger Things. (Stranger Things is kind of a favorite because my great nephew, who can do absolutely no wrong in my eyes, has the same type of wild hair as Dustin). I didn’t realize it was 2 hours long so that will be finished tonight.
And the quilt that’s tormented me for a few years, that I wadded into a ball and threw into a corner at one point, may be finished today. I pulled it out, told it to go together or go in the trash, it was not my choice, seems to be going together. Is it perfect? Hell no. But it will be done and will grace a bed in one of the spare bedrooms.
glad to know you’re on the mend! You are most welcome to visit any time we have a hurricane warning. I had a friend whose mom used to determine severity by number of bottles consumed. I don’t drink but plenty do during a storm.

I usually head outside to watch – but not when Maverick is home. Bear thinks I’m crazy but I need to see, even if I’m scared!

If you have HULU they have the Shogun on, the new one. I saw the old one years ago as a mini series and loved it. This one appears to be a series, but I’m not sure that it’s a mini series. They have the first 2 episodes, they are good, a little more violence, but I guess that is par for the here and now in movies and series :(. It seems to be very close to the original, except for the violence, I just hide my eyes during those scenes. I didn’t read the book but I’m sure it was very good. It takes place in the 1600’s in Japan. I should do more digging but I don’t know if it’s fiction or historical fiction or historical, so there’s that. If anyone out there knows you can let us know :).
My sleep has been not a lot of fun lately either. I had a uti as well, they are definitely not fun, hope it’s another 18 years before I have another one! Need to drink my lemon water everyday and not forget.

Can you take D-mannose ? I read about it and yesterday my urologist recommended it. I read Shogun years ago, it was quite good. I think the series is also on Netflix?

on the anti biotic, my body reacts unkindly to them, so there are only a few I can take and hope I don’t get allergic too. :(. I’m allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa and erythromycin and several pain killers (thanks mom :P). I won’t even take a preventative anti biotic in case I get allergic to it and won’t have it if I need it. I’ll ask my dr at my next appt about that one.
I searched on Netflix and didn’t see Shogun, as far as I know it’s just on Hulu right now. They have a different one called Age of Samurai, Battle for Japan.

D-mannose is a natural substance- not an antibiotic. Talk to your doctor, I was quite pleased that mine knew about it and recommended it.

Ugh for another UTI, but YAY for ruling out ICS! I cannot stress enough how drinking water is critical if you are prone to these things. Squeeze a little lemon or lime with lots of ice. Also, you can purchase 100% cranberry juice and add seltzer to it. Make sure it is unsweetened since sugars feed the bacteria that make UTIs flourish.
Can’t wait to see the finished quilt. I love when a large project finally completed. Take care, hon!

The urologist told me to quit cranberry awhile- the D-mannose replaces it. I took pills, can only drink cranberry juice if vodka is added. Lots of vodka! I’ll post a picture of the quilt shortly!

Did you finish Enola Holmes? That was fun! And there’s a sequel too if you didn’t know. And they’re based on a middle grade detective book series.

I didn’t – probably tonight. I will check for the sequel and the books!
