Oh yippee, it snowed

Yesterday was a cluster effin shit show. The storm apparently got drunk and couldn’t figure out where to land, so we were supposed to get nothing, then an inch, then 4 – 6. I think we ended up at 5. I got up at 4:30 to use the bathroom and it was pouring snow. Lovely. By 8, everything was covered.  I wasn’t about to attempt the driveway, so Maverick and I had breakfast together – I had coffee and Prelief, he cleaned up his snuffle mat.

By 9:30 or so it had stopped and commenced melting. Seriously? Not that I mind, but geesh, why even bother coming down if you’re leaving so soon. I think the storm woke up, was hungover, and slunk away in shame.  Bear plowed the driveway and I loaded Maverick into the car and took him to daycare. Only one other dog showed up but it happened to be his best friend, so they got to romp in the snow a bit and blow off some steam.

I had to teach at 2, Bear left for work early because that’s what happens when school is closed – and he made it quite clear he was NOT shoveling snow. (He works at the school, after two years of retirement it was find a job before your wife shoots the TV.) (And I wasn’t kidding)

Getting a late start threw everything off kilter. I picked Maverick up at 6, we came straight home and managed to do some training – I decided to work on tricks for the next level title because we need a goal and most of the tricks look like things we can master.  Bear got home early because he went in early, again throwing the normal routine off kilter.

I’m pretty sure today is wednesday.  At least I think so.  Class is done, office hour is done, I’m going to sew!

Those crazy snow storms are so erratic, but glad it melted and didn’t cause any problems.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that had to double check to make sure it was Wed!

It’s been a busy week here for me too (tho I was able to stay home to day and laz around. :P). Even got some spinning done and finished a mindless knit (dish cloth) so now I have to start another one for when I need the mindless knitting, tho I do have a diagonal scarf I have been working on for a couple of years, not a hard pattern, was a KAL I started with a friend, that I had taught to knit, before she died in a car accident, so I’m not always in the right mind to knit on it. So I work on dish clothes more often. My son wants to work on a quilt with me, so I said sure. He’s a quilter, I’m a dabbler :P.

    • One of my dearest friends, a guy, can sew the tiniest, most precise stitches you’d think he was Amish. I tell him I’ll make the tops and he can do the quilting and maybe we’ll get rich!

My son doesn’t use hand stitching because he has EDS and his joints are too loose and repeated movements cause him pain (including his back) so he uses a sewing machine to sew everything together and just eyeballs the quilting on his machine (he has a really nice sewing machine) and it always looks wonderful. I can do the machine sewing, I’ve made a log cabin lap quilt before, but instead of regular quilting I just do a tie quilt, thus I’m a dabbler :P, but I haven’t made one in a long time.  My son does his quilt sewing and quilting to relax after a day of computer programing and running down glitches for his company’s computers. I bought him the EEW 6.1 electric spinning wheel when he wanted to learn how to spin, because he said the peddling on a regular wheel would bother his ankles and it is relatively inexpensive and I wasn’t sure if he would like it so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. It’s one of those computer printed wheels with a motor attached. It spins well and he is enjoying it for relaxation too. It’s from dreaming robots.

      • Dies he have a long arm sewing machine? If so, is he married? Oh crap, never mind, Bear won’t go for polygamy. 😁

  2. I wondered who got the snow. We were in the 3-5 inch range but less than an inch fell. The powers that be called for a two hour delay for schools the night before then called off school the next morning around 7am just as the skies were clearing and the sun came out.

Lorraine (the storm name) decided not to listen to the weather forecasters (or Punxsutawney Phil) and do her own thing. Glad she didn’t hang around too long.
My week is messed up, too. I went to church yesterday morning for Ash Wednesday so it felt like Sunday all day and this must be Monday, right? But it’s not.

    • I woke up this morning thinking, “it’s Saturday, I can sleep later.” Maverick disabused me of that quickly. They closed schools here but I think we ended up with about 6 inches before it all melted. I can’t fault them, the roads were awful but with the rain before snow, how could they pretreat?
I knew someone named Lorraine. She was much nicer than this storm!

  3. Although the initial forecasts called for the snow to be in the upper part of the state, the final forecast indicated that it had moved much farther to the south than originally indicated. I did like that it came, delivered its product, and left right away. The sun coming out in mid-afternoon made the whole day feel weird weather-wise.

We’re in for a couple more inches this weekend – Friday night into Saturday, I think. I always ‘nest’ for winter so I’m good on food, but I am going to be running out of chocolate by mid-week next week. Fortunately, I have a kind soul who will clean off my car. He won’t take money, so I bake him some kind of treat to share at home with his wife. He doesn’t turn that down!
