When life gets crazy, make a bracelet

šŸ˜

Iā€™ve always loved jewelry – any kind, from the dollar store junk to the diamonds my husband has bought me over the years – referred to by my grandchildren as ā€œGrandmaā€™s sparkliesā€.

A year or so ago I bought myself a stretchy bracelet because it was pretty and I wear it often – i donā€™t often go anywhere that requires me to dress up – I teach from home so as long as the top half is presentable, I could have jammies on the bottom. No reason to don the bling when no one sees it. (Yes, Iā€™m that woman who checks on what other women are wearing, judge away.).

While taking a break from writing lecture notes because on top of teaching 5 classes to students who are incapable of reading the syllabus, I took on the task of prepping a course I havenā€™t taught in years, (thatā€™s a run-on sentence, phew!) I looked at my bracelet and thought, ā€œI could make that.ā€

And yes I could. Because I never do things in half measure s, my dining room table is now awash in beads, charms, elastic cord and jump rings.

Maverickā€™s daycare lady is going to put them in her shop to sell. I think I might put some on Etsy when I get time. I donā€™t think Iā€™ll get rich from them, but the few minutes of calm they bring are worth the price of a few beads.

And theyā€™re pretty!

  1. Whatever keeps us sane and isnā€™t illegal is good:)
Your bracelets are so pretty! I bet theyā€™ll sell. Women like a special treat now and then and when itā€™s handmade all the better.
Youā€™d judge me harshly. I donā€™t wear jewelry, not even a wedding ring. My clothes are all about comfort. Since I donā€™t have to look professional I donā€™t.
Are all your classes remote? My son has one class that is remote (Sunday nights at 6:30. Iā€™m sure you can imagine the whine emitted by the class.) The rest are in person as of now. The school did just send an email about an uptick in Covid cases so theyā€™re testing twice a week. But not graduate students because I guess the more education you have the less likely you are to catch it? Or something like that.

  2. I’ve seen several vendors selling jewelry made with beads at different craft shows and flea markets. My bestie, who still goes out to work 5 days a week, would love finding your jewelry! I know nothing about making jewelry, but it donned in my silly little head that, if the non-beaded piece (like the angel) is easy to attach, people could pick their own, even when you’re selling at a stand, and it would make it more personal to them.

I do love crafting as well, and I understand how awesome it is as a way to take away stress! Good luck!

  4. Dog jewelry is a big thing. If in doubt about that just plug “dog jewelry” into the search engine of your choice. I think you could differentiate your product offerings and specialize in Golden Retriever jewelry. Mav would approve.

Your bracelets are very pretty. I sometimes make my own progress keepers, cos you are right they are fun :). I do run on sentences all the time, mostly because I am to lazy to go back and reword and put in punctuation. LOL

    • I had to go google “progress keepers” – so cute! Half the time, I don’t capitalize when I type because it takes too long. Such a slacker I am. But when I text, I don’t abbreviate!

LOL, “auto incorrect” helps me when I texting, with things like changing words to something that has nothing to do with what I typed. I made some cherry nut fudge on day and texted my grand daughter to tell her she could stop by to get some, it’s her favorite. Auto incorrect took it upon it’s self to change it to cherry but fudge. oh the embarrassment of it all :P. I try to double check my texts now to see what evil auto incorrect is doing randomly when I send out messages.

I disagree with Max. If you decide to make dog-themed jewelry, make as many breeds as is practical.šŸ•šŸ¦®šŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ
